More large and vintage…..

Joanne brought her sampler quilt which she made, I think, about 25 tears ago for me to quilt. It had been in storage for a long time. It required a beauty Spa and some remedial stitching before it could go on the frame. Here it is already to go:

All over Baptist fans seemed a perfect fit for the middle of this quilt.

The 12” wide border was the place to go to town with some lush feathers and micro straight line fill.

Joanne chose a rich green backing for the quilt. The back looks lovely.

This quilt had the total treatment, wash, repair, quilting, binding the full beauty spa. Here it is in it’s full glory:

Thanks for entrusting your treasure to me, Joanne.

Swell and a String of Pearls

This sculpture called Swell is on the lake front downtown Taupo.

I have often thought it would be the perfect place to photograph a quilt. So on a sparkly frosty morning I headed on down to grab a photo opportunity.

Sadly a curved surface is not so good for draping a quilt on.

…but wait there’s always the chain fence…

By the way this is my quilt! The pattern is from Sew Kind of Wonderful. It is from their Urban series and is called Urban Birthday.  Peggy pieced it for me and I of course quilted it. I used Sew Kind of Wonderful’s clever quilting rulers to Stitch in  the ditch and to create the channels for the pearls. BTW I stitched about 3500 pearls into this quilt top. That’s why the quilt is called “String of Pearls”

Sally’s Sunflowers…

Sally wrote to me and asked if I would quilt a Sunflower themed quilt for her. I imagined something very country toned. Imagine my surprise when I opened her parcel and found her very modern toned Sunflower quilt.

Twenty five appliqued Sunflower blocks! What a marathon that must have been for Sally.

I Nemeshed the background of all the sunflowers blocks.

The connecting blocks also formed the border. I gave them a modern touch by stitching a square on point in the centre and then stitching wavy lines out to the edges. I think this worked well for this quilt.

Thank you for asking me to stitch your quilt Sally.
