more repurposing…..

Recently I found two letter boxes in an Op shop.

Letter rack one

I immediately thought they could be repurposed for sewing. So I lined the boxes with non slip shelf lining.

One for Peggy, one for me.

Good repurpose, don’t you think? Oh, and they cost $1 each!

Good bye Summer

Sunbonnet Sue has left the entrance to be replaced by Peggy’s Oriental Ladies:

Our rescued Hearts in the Sunroom:

Heart quilt

This quilt has had a wee beauty treatment since we last hung it. Peggy took off the plain cream binding and replaced it with magic binding with a wee pop of colour.

Looks smarter doesn’t it? It’s nice to have a change.

Reduce, reuse, repurpose…..

Look what I have made with an unused duvet cover and valance.

 Simply stitched with “organic” lines

…..and reversible:

So you don’t know what organic lines are? Just an artistic way of saying not straight! This quilt is so lovely and soft and snuggly. I put wool batting in it. I managed to make two pillowslips out of the valance.

My little blue and white collection is coming on nicely.

Our Happy Hens have company…

……Today Peggy spotted  a range of kitchen linen featuring chickens at Briscoes.

Happy hen pot holders

We just had to have some of that didn’t we? They also had tea towel sets to match, had to have those too. When we returned home I remembered I had watched a video yesterday about making an apron from a tea towel. I bet you can guess what happened next.

Check out the pocket detail:

Very cute, yes?

The apron was ubber easy to make. I did make my pocket smaller, I suspect American tea towels are perhaps as big as Texas.  Click here for directions.

Sometimes it’s nice….

………to take a break and make something just for me.

You can see the block pattern and quilting better in this picture:

I’m still here….

…….things have been a tad busy. Not as much time as I would like to quilt. Today I managed to get some stitching done on the blue and pink quilt. I like how it’s coming on.

I’ve been given a challenge……

A while ago I sent  Jan of A Passion for Vintage Textiles some old knitting patterns, you can read about that here.

I truly didn’t mean to challenge her but she sees these old patterns as a challenge and has responded by issuing a challenge to me! A squishy envelope with very Canadian style writing arrived in my letter box.

Inside was this fabric, with a challenge to me to turn it into some thing gorgeous.

The large piece is  37” x 20” and the smaller pieces are 2.5” square.                       .

Any ideas folks??? Help me out here pleeeeease.

PS.  Jan, I think the Tea Cosy looks great.
