The Mighty Waikato River…

One of the things I love about the location of our house is that we overlook the Waikato River. We are near the source of the river which is Lake Taupo. Our house is located at the top of cliff overlooking an area which we call “The Lagoon”, that is accessed via Pois Road. The Lagoon is a favourite swimming, kayaking and fishing spot.

This morning we could hear chatter and laughter floating up from the Lagoon. We looked down to see a crowd of people forming a flotilla.

Every kind of floating equipment you could think of – from pool noodles and old tyre inners

to dolphins…….

and arm chairs….

After much chatter they were on their way:

A super way to keep cool on a hot sunny day.

Bye for now.

Californian Quail

Every summer we are delighted to have a family of Quails visit our garden. It is charming to see the tight knit family unit.

They move so quickly they are hard to capture pictures of .

Still making bubbles!

When my Great Nephew Jackson was staying over Christmas he mentioned that he needed a bigger quilt. Nana Peggy pulled out some quilt tops for him to look at. Jackson selected Science Fair.

In keeping with the modern style of this quilt and to compliment the way some of the hexagons look like they are floating off into space I quilted a new to me bubbles/balloon pattern all over the quilt.

I like how it looks. Lots of texture and a feeling of movement. No too much stitching so the quilt still feels nice and cuddly.

I’m sure Jackson will enjoy snuggling under his quilt.

Happy New Year!

We’re 7 hours into the New Year Down Under. I am fighting off the urge to make sweeping statements like “I will finish all my UFOs in 2014”!

A big “Thank you” to all you lovely people who send me your precious patchwork to quilt last year. It has been a pleasure to work with you. I hope I get to work with you again this year.

Let’s start the New Year with a bit of humour:
