Kwilter’s Eye Kandy

Look at this:
Kwilters Eye Kandy
Yum yum, Moda Dessert roll of Ombre Dots. Today it was my turn to request my Birthday Blocks from Sweet Peas.I have asked for Rolling Stone blocks

made with the Ombre Dots with the pale blue pictured for background.I think this is going to make a quilt with a very modern look with lots of movement.
Sweet Peas gathered at Mary’s house today. Lots of show and tell and chatter.
Trish is making a big block quilt with four of these ginormous 27” blocks Debbie has been helping her by satin stitching the applique down. Ah, the perks of being a Sweet Pea.

Andreena has just completed this Chevron top which is coming to me to quilt. This quilt is for her son, a keen fisherman. The pattern squares are all fish/beach themed. I’m thinking some nice waves stitched through the blue will look good.

Debbie shared some small blocks she is button hole stitching by hand.

We couldn’t resist a wee play with them. They are going to look stunning.
Margaret had taken a couple of classes at Symposium. Here’s some of her work:

A nice treat for me……

…today I was given this divine bracelet:

DSCF1468

The beads were made by Lindy Nicholls of Hotglass Jewellery Opotiki. I see her site is under construction but there are a few items up.

As well as the bracelet I given two of Lindy’s hand made glass buttons.

Happy Days!

Thank you Janelle for these very special gifts.

Scrappy Trip Around the World

Over Summer I caught the STAW virus. Other people were churning out STAW blocks. I just had to join in. I did make a STAW quilt about 6 years ago. I gave it to our Community Quilt project. Sadly I don’t even have a photo of it as my computer died and took my photos with it. Grrrrr.

I made my blocks but they were set aside in favour of quilting. Last week Peggy offered to sew them together for me. A bit of stash busting followed and borders were added.

Bit of a breeze off the mighty Waikato river today.

I’m very happy with how it has turned out. Golly my new machine better arrive soon, quilts are stacking up at an alarming rate.

Bye for now, I’m off to complete yet another UFO.

Catch up stitching

Way back in July 2011 I made a sample for a Midnight Madness evening of a 10 minute quilt block using a directional fabric.

Ten Minute Block

I finally completed the quilt top.

Ten Minute Quilt Block 2

Only two years.

I had two blocks over so I made two cushion covers.

Now all I need is my new long arm machine so I can get quilting.

Frosty here this morning but I am sure that will lead to a beautiful day.

All good in Taupo.

Re purposing……

Every now and then I put a calico quilt sandwich onto my quilting machine to check out threads or patterns. Some quilters call the result a Graffiti Quilt.

Chair quilt

We have a new sewing chair which is covered with that horrid synthetic fabric that attracts threads and cat fur like a magnet. I have made my graffiti quilt into a cover for it.

Not a perfect fit I know. I kinda made it up as I went along.

Peggy and I decided to move our sewing machines into the Sun room for a few weeks. Spot my new sewing corner. Too nice.

I have to admit that is the before sewing photo – doesn’t look that tidy now!

More quilts from Taupo….

My trip to the exhibition was sadly a rather rushed affair. I snapped photos of at random of quilts that appealed to me. I am sorry I don’t have details about makers. The standard was very high, I would love to be able to show you all the quilts but 150 photos would be a bit much!

I do know this one was made by Gloria Loughman

Gloria Loughman

This was my fav quilt, purple, pink, blue – now is that a surprise?

DSCF1421

The piecing, quilting and embellishment all superb.

Star quilt

Loved this one too. A double wedding ring with tiny nine patches in the arcs. Small wedges placed between the nine patches to execute the arch. Then about 260 yoyos around the scalloped edge.

A couple more that took my eye:

It is Quilt viewing time in Taupo

DSCF1391

Taupo is the Kwilt Kapital of New Zealand at the moment. Just a walk around town provides lots of Kwilt eye Kandy.

DSCF1392

Lots of liquorice  coloured quilts in the sweet shop window.

How about this patchwork styled tunic with a quilt in the background?

The Stash Box is on its way……

I loved having it at my house but it’s time for it to move on. Before it left I added these goodies:
Stash BoxCollage
I put a pop of colour and a dash of vintage in the button jar:

I had quite a struggle getting the lid back on. I hope it doesn’t explode when Louana at NZGreenButtons opens it!
…….and just because I can, a picture of our beautiful mountains this morning,

Something old, something new,

something borrowed, something blue.

DSCF1360

The something old is the wool blanket in this quilt and the op shopped Laura Ashley print on the back.

 DSCF1380

The something new is the printed squares fabric.

DSCF1373

(did you spot the girls bombing my photo?)

………and for something borrowed I am going to claim my first attempt at Susie’s Magic Binding.

DSCF1367

Oh, and I’m sure you can see the blue!
