Did you guess……………

……………that I was making this?
DSCF0276
As soon as I saw this pattern at Moda Bake Shop I wanted to make it. I have a great niece arriving in March. Her parents are thoroughly modern so I think this will be just perfect.
I stitched tiny pebble around the letters and then gradually enlarged them into bubbles. The bubbles go out beyond the letters for a wee way, then I stitched wavy lines out to the edges.

Sweet Peas…..

…gathered at our house today.
In the past to celebrate Birthdays we all gave the Birthday Girl a Fat Quarter. This year we are all making the Birthday Girl a block of her choice, in the colour of her choice.
This year Trish will be the first recipient. She has chosen to supply her own background, we can put what ever colour we like with it - except burnt orange.
The block she picked is Sister’s Choice. Today we spent time learning how to cut and construct the block. This is my sample block:
DSCF0274
Note: this is not my block for Trish, just the sample. I have decided to make one of every block. By the end of the year I will have the makings of a quilt.
We also spent some time looking at the construction of the block I made yesterday for Mary’s quilt:

Peggy has been busy using her new Go Cutter Rose of Sharon Die to make some flower pretties:

Last Sweet Pea's day Mary asked Peggy to cut a quilt out for her. The pattern is from the book Fab Five. Peggy decided to whip up a quilt to check out the pattern:

Modern style, very cute – and fast!!!

Friends with Benefits?

One of our Sweet Pea ladies bought a load of fabric awhile  ago to make a quilt.

DSCF0257

She became disenchanted with the pattern and wondered what else she could do. After some research I found this quilt on the net:

DSCF0258

……and worked out how to make it. Today I sewed a sample block and put together a series of construction photos:

DSCF0251Block Construction

This is a super easy block to make. Nothing to match until blocks are sewn together.

Here’s my sample block with a border to put around to see if the blocks will “float”

yDSCF0254

I have the blocks cut out and stacked ready for our Sweet Pea to sew.

Friend’s with benefits?A more genteel interpretation – perhaps the top will come back for me to quilt.Sweet Peas meet at our house tomorrow, pop back to see what they have been up to.

Op Shop Treasure…….

Our friend Debbie is a dab hand at restoring furniture. You may remember I wrote about a green dollar trade we had. She restored a chest of drawers and I quilted for her.

Now Debbie like a touch of Lime Green around her house……so when I spotted a wee side table at the Opshop I thought Debbie might like it to work her magic on.

Debbies Table

Look at the result:

Debbies table two

Isn’t that a super result? A $10 investment plus elbow grease and paint.Debbie is happy.

You want to know how the chookies are don’t you? Today they gave us three eggs for the first time.

That’s one double yolker, one standard and one beginners. Yipeeee!!!

What a clever marketing ploy it was…..

…….when someone worked out that we would be happy to pay top dollar for tomatoes still on the truss. We’re silly enough to pay for stalks!!!

Never mind this year we have them beat. For the first time for many years we have grown Grosse Lisse tomatoes. We have our own truss tomatoes coming on fast.

Picking any day now:

Pumpkins volunteered in our garden, I didn’t have the heart to pull them out. They must know, they’re growing so fast!

DSCF0209

Isn’t the perfection of nature a creative inspiration? We have two large tubs of these brilliant marigolds on our patio.

DSCF0203

Looking forward to watching the Cricket this evening – and the chooks out for their evening roam.

Thanks for coming by

A warm welcome to my new followers. Thanks for joining me.

PS Chookies gave us our first double yolker today.

I have mail!

Jenny at Miss Smith at Home offered a giveaway of some retro fabric. Of course I could not resist that! Jenny was offering a piece of fabric with a dark brown background with wee Daisies. I could see this fabric in a project with more white and some pink added.

DSCF0138

When the parcel arrived it seemed to feel a little heavy.

Surprise Jenny had put in another piece of fabric:

DSCF0139

Not sure what fabric I will add to the orange – any ideas welcome.

Jenny sent a note on this very nice Kiwiana Postcard:

DSCF0140

Please read the cute note she sent. It gives you a taste of her sense of humour and great writing style.

DSCF0141

I have discovered that as well as Miss Smith at Home Jenny writes another blog:

D R McLean’s ANZAC Letters Letters from her grandfather to his family in New Zealand during WWI. A very interesting read.

Please pop on over and visit Jenny.

Op shop Treasure

As you probably know I am rather fond of bright fabric. I was very happy to find this piece at the Opshop on Thursday:

DSCF0135

The flowers are big and splashy. May just become a quilt back, but that’s fine with me.

I’m linking with Max at Blackbird has spoken for her OpShop Show off. Pop on over to see other goodies.

Cheers

Sweet Peas

Gathered today for the first time this year. Lots of chatter, laughter, show and tell and yummy food.
Do you remember when I quilted Moira’s crinoline ladies? She brought her quilt  back today to show us the pretty flowers sequins she stitched onto the flower stalks.
DSCF0100
Moira is busy now stitching away at blocks for a Golly quilt:
Moiras Gollys
You may have seen these blocks before. They are usually made in very subdued muddy colours but Moira has used her own choice of colours plus different trimmings. Spot the heart pockets.
Rochelle has been busy making a wall hanging featuring a NZ wet lands theme complete with Pukekoes.

It was a little chilly here this morning….

The cats immediately turned into wimps!

Quilts were required:

Kaiser loves to rest his chin, what better place than the top of Koko’s head?

It’s a hard life for cats around here.
