today we had a grandstand view of the river race which went from the lagoon on the Waikato River just below our house to Reid’s Farm further down the river.
Reid’s Farm Recreation Reserve is situated on the Waikato River and located off Huka Falls Road north of Taupo. A picturesque reserve it is popular as a picnic spot, as access to launch kayaks and has restricted camping. Free camping is permitted on the reserve with a maximum length of stay up to 7 nights in any consecutive 14 night period. First we saw people gathering on the grassy area: 
Starting buoys placed at the mouth of the lagoon: 
Safety flotilla gathering: 
Competitors lined up ready to go: 
and then they were off! 
It was amazing what a lot of splashing noise we could hear.
We love living in Taupo, there’s always something going on.I guess that’s why Taupo is called the Events Capital of New Zealand.

What a great way to spend the day. Remember going to Huka Falls many years ago. A lovely area of New Zealand.
