All the comforts of home

Recently our sister Barbara who lives in our Mum’s old home in Tauranga announced she would be completely redecorating the house. All flooring was to be replaced. I asked her if we could have the carpet out of the lounge for our Studio (aka Garage).

On Tuesday we travelled over to Tauranga to pick up the carpet. We found that we had scored not only the carpet but lovely spongy underlay too. It was a challenge to get it all in the car.

Thursday we pulled the carpet out onto the cobblestones. Trimmed it to size and shampooed it.

It’s a very pretty Axminster style carpet. It was probably the only brand spanking new carpet our Mother ever had.

We have installed it (with a little help from Debbie and Rochelle) and it looks very nice. A bit of sheer luxury in our Studio.

We are thinking Mum would be very pleased that we have rescued a bit of her lovely carpet.

Life after Jane

….just in case you thought I had forgotten how to do anything but quilt!
I often see Chocolate Chip cookies mentioned on American blogs. They are supposed to be America’s favourite Cookie. Now I have never made Chocolate Chip Cookies  - although they are pretty popular here too. I wrote to Peggy’s Daughter in law Lisa, who lives in Seattle to request a recipe.
She sent me this link. Today I got up early and made my very first batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies.
I have to say they are pretty yum. I didn’t have 2 cups of Chocolate chips as required. I  bought a bag of Cadbury’s CC thinking they would be enough. That was about  1 1/2 cups but I think that’s plenty. The recipe says to put Tablespoons of mix on the baking trays – in this part of the world I think a good teaspoonful is all you need.Unless you want cookies as big as Texas.
Warning!!!! The raw mixture tastes pretty damn good too!!! Hard to have just a wee taste test.
I took some in for the ladies at the OpShop for morning tea. They cookies vanished – so I guess they passed the taste test.
Thanks for sharing Lisa, I’ll be making these again.

Her bags are packed………...

………………….she’s ready to go

Yes, Dear Jane is ready to head home. Just a tiny peek at her quilted loveliness:

Jane was a tad stir crazy after all her time indoors so I took her for a wee outing:

Thanks for staying with me through the Dear Jane journey.

Dear Jane…….

……… would fit right into the Modern Quilt movement. June commented on this block:

Is it, she asked, an asterisk block? I believe it is. Perhaps Dear Jane was the designer of this block?

Look at this block which Brenda Mangas Papadakis called “Eye of the Cyclone”

I could see this in a modern quilt, made with a solid background and a feature fabric of stripes or spots.

Yes, Dear Jane would be right at home in the Modern Quilt Movement.

Bye for now

Little things make such a difference

When Alan was here he made a peg board for me. It is mounted on the wall behind my quilting machine.

Perfect for storing my rulers. Hopefully I’ll remember to pop them right back up there after use.Like the ad says:

Yeah right.

Dear Jane IX

Like all good beauty Spas Chez Razzle Dazzle has some before and after photos:

A few stitching lines can make such a difference.

I love the star that appears in the stitching here.

Good news, Jane has had a break off the frame today. Time to stretch and flex. Yes, finally time to turn her and work on another border. The end is in sight.

Thanks for popping by.

Dear Jane VIII

Dear Jane and I had a stitching bee today. She keeps springing surprises on me. Look how this simple little block looks with a few lines of stitching:

…..and this one:

………….and once again – less is more!

I like the way this one looks like it almost has a spider web in it.

Look how these curved lines change this block:

I think Dear Jane would be happy with our stitching today. I know I am – only 3 rows to go!!!!!

Thanks for checking on on me  - and Jane.

PS Note to self – clean smudge off camera lens!

Dear Jane VII

Yes, Jane and I had some time together yesterday.

As always less is more:

Jane knew that, she didn’t quilt her blocks to death.

Look at these hearts popping:

Don’t worry that’s just basting passing through the top of the hearts.

In all its lovely yellow ginghamness this Le Moyne star is probably my favourite block so far. It kinda just snuck up on me and turned out so pretty

Sweet Peas gather at our house tomorrow. I wonder if they will notice a change in our lounge?

Brother Alan is visiting, he has installed  a new quilt rail for us. (That lumpy bumpy bit at the bottom of the picture is our super large squishy cushion sofa.)

Hope to bring you news of Sweet Peas tomorrow.

PS I never get tired of looking at Urban Pods.Smile
